City of New Orleans Ground Elevations
Our Story:
On Monday, August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina rumbled through New Orleans, pushing a torrent of water through the flood wall of the London Avenue Canal - mere blocks from our front door. That day was the beginning of a journey of faith unlike anything our congregation had ever experienced.
Every member of our congregation felt deeply the sudden disruption of life, fellowship and routine. Many lost homes and possessions. Many did not return. But God, who is rich in mercy, provided for us in ways far beyond our imagination. A faithful remnant of members returned and began the tedious and difficult task of cleaning up, gutting and rebuilding.
Southern Baptists from across the nation opened their hearts and became the life support we needed. For the next two and a half years, our brothers and sisters in Christ sacrificed time, money and energy to provide the support and resources we needed to rebuild. We were humbled by their service.
In September 2008, we rededicated our building and renewed our commitment to serve a mighty God "who is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope."
