Simply speaking, worship is the act of ascribing worth to someone or something. As such, worship is our response to what we value most. Here at Edgewater we worship the one, true God for who He is and what He has done. Our response of praise and thankfulness is not an event or experience that happens only on Sunday morning, but it is a lifestyle that characterizes who we are as believers in God.

According to Scripture, true worship has a specific character: "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks" (John 4:23). The goal of the worship team at Edgewater is to exemplify these characteristics while leading others to do the same before throne of God.

The book of Revelation provides some visual images of what worship looks like. Notice both the posture of worship and the content of worship.

"Day and night they never stop saying, 'Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come." (Rev 4:8)

"They lay their crowns before the throne and say, 'You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being." (Rev 4:10-11)

"In a loud voice they sang: 'Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!' Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: 'To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, forever and ever.'" (Rev 5:12-13)

According to these passages, worship takes places without ceasing ("day and night"), through proclamation ("they never stop saying"), by selfless sacrifice ("they lay their crowns before the throne"), and by singing ("they sang"). Also, the content of worship revolves around who God is and what He has done ("holy," "Almighty," creator, sustainer, "worthy," powerful).

With all this in view, here at Edgewater we believe that God is and should be the sole object of our affection and attention. We worship Him at all times and in a variety of ways because this is the desire of our hearts and is the proper response to who He is and the salvation He has brought to us through His son Jesus Christ.
